The rock n roll fire had been burning in Mikes head for as far back as he could remember. Mike Salsbury (Sals) had played Misfits covers and as much classic rock that he could digest since was a youngin, moving from bass to guitar to vocals, and even drums. Many different musicians and friends were made during these early years at the multitude of shows and parties they played together. Sals kept the blaze going in California as the vocalist for the rockin hardcore great Tore Back. Out of the Marines and back in Cleveland, Sals was determined to not only keep the fire going, but to push himself further than he had ever gone before into the music industry. He met Remy DeGardeyn at this crappy machine shop in Cleveland. Remy had similar interests and liked Mikes recordings, since he recorded himself, and was impressed that Mike wrote every track right down to the vocals. Remy decided to re-record Mikes songs and, by the end of the day, was starting to learn the songs on bass, though he was primarily a guitar player. This motivated the two to try out a few drummers and guitar players, but with no success. Sals then contacted Mike Daley, a long time friend that he jammed and played shows with years ago. After one practice it was evident that Daley would be a perfect fit as drummer. He would soon be nicknamed Godzilla because his physical characteristics and drumming style are nothing short of a large monster stomping all over a city. After writing three songs it was evident that the trio needed a solid guitar player so Sals could have more vocal stage presence. Marco Quiroz answered an ad Sals put out there for an accomplished guitar player. Marco had played in various cover bands since his high school years. However, he was sick of playing cover tunes. He was so overloaded with creativity that he had to let it out before his head exploded. He jumped right on board, writing riff after riff , and constantly trying new ideas. His solid, precise playing carries much of the bands weight. Sals's edgy rock n roll lyrics coupled with his anselmo-esque screams really hit home and drive the music to another level. Daleys swingy punk beats matched with his double kick combos will have you going from tapping your feet to stomping someones face. Remy is just plain fuckin crazy; hed have to be for his broke ass to smash three basses in the last year, but don't be fooled. He is the wild heart and soul of King with his unpredictable behavior and string ripping playing style. There are so many diverse influences, everything from death metal to the Allman Bros.; it would be too boring to read all of them. However, various comparisons to the band are Pantera, Slayer, Black Sabbath, Clutch and the Misfits. The group has played many shows in the local curcuit for about 3 years, supporting Cleveland music and Cleveland itself. Together they have won a couple battle of the bands, recorded a full-length studio cd and distributed over 1000 of them into the scene, and have radio airplay on stations like 89.3 WCSB at CSU,91.1 wruw, 100.7 on their Native Noise show, and 88.7 wjcu with Bill Peters with a live interviews. Pulling in a consistent draw, it is obvious to see the staying power of these four guys that crawled drunk out of a basement, calling themselves King. King began as a vision to bring Cleveland scene something it deserves; something the music fans have been waiting for, a band that has influence of the core of the best rock and metal yet defines their sound in a way that is believable to the fans.
